About

When they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I didn't have a specific and well thought-out answer like everyone else. All I knew was that I really wanted some paints on one of those wooden pallets with the thumb hole in it, and some brushes. Do you remember Harold and the Purple Crayon? That book amazed me.

Artist statement:

The Alternative
Binta Loos-Diallo

The visible world is constructed from color and permeated by water. Color seeps through, drifts over, and surges around shadows. Look for those colors that are least expected and realize where they emerge. Take a moment to forget what you expect to see. Instead, notice green and cobalt shadows on collarbones, orange and gold glancing off of shoulder blades. See how the human being relates to the rhythms of the plant world that surrounds and supports us— waxing and waning throughout the days and months, bursting with robust energy, quietly waiting in a state of dormancy, wilting slowly as dictated by time and the availability of water, fire, shade, and stone.
